Breakwater Brewing Company- Oceanside
In early 2009, Breakwater Brewing started making craft beer to pair with their artisanal pizzas and have been producing quality brews ever since. They brew on equipment salvaged from a New Orleans micro-brewery that was wrecked by hurricane Katrina in 2005, which may be a reason why their beers are so tasty. Take, for example, the four beers I recently tasted: Beach Honey Cream Ale, DMJ IPA, Mavericks Imperial IPA, and Perfect Day Imperial IPA. They were all well-crafted, true-to-style brews to be proud of. I especially liked the Perfect Day DIPA, so here is my impression of it:
Dark amber in color with a small, off-white head; good lacing. Lovely grapefruit and citrus flower aromas which brought forth memories of walking in North County orchards. Nice grassy, resinous, grapefruit, and green grapes flavors. Slight maltiness. Silky mouthfeel, and a crisp, bitter finish. A piece of carrot cake would be a delicious match for this brew.
Incidentally, the service was excellent while I was visiting. When I walked in I was greeted with a smile and hello from a young lady making pizzas, and when I reached the bar, Matt, the bartender did the same and introduced himself by name. Matt provided me with attentive service and we chatted about our preferences in beer styles. He gave me a taste of Breakwater’s Kali Kush special APA that he enjoys, and I liked its mild sagebrush flavoring. Cheers to Breakwater Brewing Company!Share This:
