Fall Brewing Company- San Diego (North Park)
Open less than a month and Fall Brewing is already pumping out a set of tasty brews. One I tried over the weekend was posted on the board as a brew reminiscent of an IPA circa 1977, called Spirit of 77 IPA. I was curious what this liquid time machine might do to my mind and taste buds. Here’s what I got from a glass of it:
Golden color, clear, with ample white head and lacing. Neutral aroma at first big sniff, but after a series of “rabbit sniffs” I pulled up a faint floral scent from the bouquet of hops they used (Cascade, Chinook, Centennial). Medium hop flavor with tasty grapefruit, pine, and floral facets. Low malt flavor, light mouthfeel, with some astringency under the bitterness. Crisp, medium bitter aftertaste that sparked visions of raw oysters, grilled octopus, and calamari salad dancing in my head. Overall, a drinkable brew that surprised me with its 7.3% ABV.
