About: Founded in 2011, Offbeat Brewing embraces the philosophy that “brewing is an art form.” Located in a modern business park, their tasting room manifests this philosophy through its design and aesthetic vibe. It’s the kind of brewery I like to visit: hand-made from the ground up by family, friends, and artists, unique in how it reflects its community and fan base.
Walk into the bright, sun-lit tasting room and you are at the heart of the brewery. Look around and feel the love in the way the room was created. The working brewing system is right there with you. Big picnic benches are carefully arranged, artwork is displayed all around, and the tasting bar beckons with a menu of fresh beers.
Here at Offbeat Brewing, art gallery and the art of beer merge together in one winsome space.
What I Drank: Felicita Session IPA (4.8% ABV/81 IBU) dry hopped with Saphir hops.
Poured to the brim in a beer-clean pint glass, this beer is amber in color, clear, with a white head. It has a fresh hop aroma that is spicy and citrusy. Flavor is malt grain, citrusy, and spicy, with medium bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with a smooth texture and low carbonation. Aftertaste is clean with a pleasant, lingering bitterness. Overall, this is a well-crafted West Coast-style IPA showcasing Saphir hops, making it distinctive among other IPAs brewed in San Diego County.
Likes: I like that the brewing system, like the works of art displayed all around, is predominate in the tasting room. The colorful mural high up on one wall overlooking the brewery is whimsical and fun to interpret. Lots of picnic benches offer comfortable places to sit alone or with friends. The tasting bar is also comfortable with clear views of the artwork and outdoors. Clean restrooms!
I also like the arrangement the brewery has with local food trucks that visit.
The Verdict: Recommended. Offbeat Brewing is a beautiful brewery boasting some of the best craft beers in North San Diego County. They have a beer style for everyone, prices are reasonable, and knowledgeable staff are friendly and welcoming.Share This:
