Pacific Brewing Company- San Diego
I heard through the “hopbine” that Pacific Brewing Company was making some good beer, so I “hopped” in the Silver Bullet and paid them a visit. People who told me about Pacific Brewing were correct: their beers are not only good, but great.
I tasted a flight of four chosen from the menu board and I’m happy to report that every one of them was a quality example of that particular style. Pacific’s brewing philosophy is to produce “clean, cold and bountiful” beers that are “eloquently hopped to produce a clean and balanced bitterness, free of harsh flavors.” That philosophy is exemplified in the beers I sampled.
My favorite of the day was one of their new beers, Rodan Red IPA, 7.3 ABV. Here’s how I rated it:
Elegant, ruby-red color, creamy white head, lasting lacing. Aroma is slight tropical fruit and citrus, vanilla, and hint of caramel. Full body, creamy texture, average carbonation, clean finish with perfect amount of bitterness. There’s a slight sweetness on the front, moderate bitterness on the back; nice flavor transition; no harsh flavors. Overall, very nice red IPA, and will go back for another one real soon (if there is any left).
