About: Founded last year by home brewer Rawley Macias, this bicycle racing-themed brewery officially opened on April 8th. In doing so, Rouleur Brewing joins seven other craft brewing companies operating in Carlsbad. The new 10-barrel brewery is housed in a Brewery Igniter turn-key facility.
Rouleur Brewing opened with seven beers with names relating to the world of bicycle racing. Although the company’s website states their beers are inventions of Macias, “hybrids of different styles,” and “outside the confines of formal guidelines,” each of Rouleur’s beer names corresponds to a common beer style. For example, The Clydesdale is labeled as an IPA.
Common beer styles being poured in the tasting room (decorated with bike race photos, a cool dynamic bike wheel wall, a racing bike, racing jersey, and a HDTV playing bike race videos) are currently: Blonde Ale, Red Ale, Pale Ale, Dark Ale, IPA, Golden Strong Ale, and Imperial IPA.
What I Drank: I ordered an 8 ounce taster of The Soloist (8.8% ABV/30 IBU) which is labeled a “Golden Strong Ale.”
Tasting The Soloist reminded me of a Belgian-style ale: pale, effervescent; with fruity, spicy, and peppery aromas and flavors. The finish was clean and delicious. The high alcohol was not detected, so be careful if you order one.
Likes: The beer I sampled was delicious. Prices are reasonable. Service was friendly and excellent. Plenty of parking. Restroom was clean.
The Verdict: Rouleur Brewing is a new brewery in Carlsbad and already making tasty beers. The tasting room is relaxing, decorated nicely, and customer service is excellent. Highly recommended.Share This:
