Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens- San Diego (Liberty Station)
I finally made it to Stone Brewing at Liberty Station! Now I know why my friends have raved about it. Stone has really built a fine establishment at Liberty Station that in my opinion, rivals their Escondido location. Like Stone Escondido, the service was great as soon as I walked in. Like Stone Escondido, the interior is spacious and impressive. Like Stone Escondido, the food is wonderful. Unlike Stone Escondido: the gardens. They are still very nice, but different. Go there and you will see what I mean. Plants need time to grow up and flourish.
It was a hot day when I visited so I was ready for a cold IPA. At the top of the menu list was a “Stone Farms Fresh Hop Ale” American IPA made with hops from Stone’s Farm in Escondido. Since fall is fresh hop season and I love fresh hop brews it was a no-brainer to order this one. I was not disappointed.
Served in a proper tall tulip glass (there are no shaker glasses at Stone), this fresh hop ale was golden in color with a half-inch white foam head when it was served. Temperature was perfect. A thin, feathery lacing followed the brew down the inside of the glass. Lighter, yet distinctive grapefruit and pine aromas pleased my nose before delivering a smooth, fruity, slightly spicy bitterness flavor for the taste buds. Nicely carbonated, it had a pleasant, lemon aspect to the clean finish. I found out from the bartender that this beer was made with neomexicanus hops (along with Sterling and Chinook), which I assume helped with the lighter aroma and bitterness. Overall, this was a classic American IPA which I would love to order again. Foodies recommend pairing a beer like this with Asian dishes. Cheers!Share This:
