URBN St. Brewing Company- El Cajon
My visit to URBN St. Brewing was pleasant and memorable. Just before entering the restaurant and tasting room I happened by the outside door of the brew room and peeked in. One of the brewers was hard at work, but he still looked up and smiled at me and nodded hello. When I entered the front door and walked toward the bar the bartender also smiled and welcomed me with a friendly hello. She also presented me with food and drink menus, told me about their house craft beers, and pointed out the line up of taps from some awesome local and out-of-state craft breweries. URBN St.’s friendliness and attention to customer care was immediately evident. Quality service continued through my visit, which I greatly appreciate.
Since all of the house beers looked tempting I decided on a diverse flight of their popular brews; a Saison, Brown, IPA, and XPA. The first three brews were delicious exemplars of their styles and I enjoyed them all. The XPA was just alright, though drinkable. Just when I was finishing the XPA, the bartender brought me a taster glass of what was for me the highlight of the visit: “Cafecito Triple Brown,” 10% ABV. This delightful ale is a collaboration brew between URBN St. and Stone Liberty Station, and here’s my description of it:
An ample pour in a taster glass, this brew has a beautiful dark brown color with tan head that laced long. Malt-dominated, rich toasty coffee, caramel, and chocolate aroma, with the same flavors to match. A tiny bit of sweetness from the Demerara sugar is balanced by medium bitterness from the hops. Silky mouth feel, clean finish. I would love to have a full pint of this delicious, well-made classic. As a foodie, I would pair this brew with hearty cheeses, artisanal sausages, grass fed beef steaks, Carnival squash soup, and roasted root veggies.Share This:
