Flight of tasters at Intergalactic Brewing

Intergalactic Brewing is a cool craft brewery located in the Miramar light industrial district of San Diego. Their diverse selection of beers have fun,  cosmic names like “Astro Scottish,” “Red Planet Rye,” and “Subspace Session.”  I assembled a flight of five brews to taste:  Wormhole Wit (Belgian Witbier); River Rouge Marzen (German Lager); River Rouge IPA (American IPA); River Rouge Black IPA; and Space Oasis Coconut Porter (Specialty Porter), which won a Silver Medal at the Los Angeles County Fair.

Since I have a thing for medal winners lately, I zeroed in on the Coconut Porter to rate and describe. To me, this brew is close to the style of a Robust Porter with a big coconut adjunct to enhance flavor.  It has a black color, oily body, a chocolatey sweet and bold, dark roast flavor, medium bitterness, and a beautiful, smooth finish.  As for aroma?  Coconut, of course!  Drinking it brought back pleasant memories of eating a Mounds candy bar.  If Intergalactic has any of this tasty brew left when you visit, I recommend buying a pint.  It is delicious.
