Keg N Bottle Brewing- San Diego
I’m a big fan of Hefeweizens, and Keg N Bottle is a small batch craft brewery producing the style at K’nB Wine Cellars in Del Cerro. Keg N Bottle’s creations are available on tap at K’nB, along with other first-rate craft beers from guest breweries.
K’nB Wine Cellars is an amazing establishment that must be visited. It’s a bistro, bottle shop, tap room, wine cellar, specialty beverage outlet, and nano-brewery, all in one location. Plus, the place has two large rooms in the back of the store that may be rented for small events, parties, and private tastings.
When I was there the other day to taste their beer, the place was packed, the service was great, and patrons were happy. Now to the brew:
Test Batch #16 Hefeweizen, 6.5%/40 IBUs, was on tap when I visited K’nB. This unfiltered wheat beer has a full, tawny gold color, classically hazy, with high carbonation and a one-finger white head. Fresh aromatics of clove/coriander spiciness, banana, and bubblegum were easy to detect. I tried but could not pick up any vanilla notes. Low bitterness was nicely balanced with sweetness. Overall, this is a flavorful brew, crisp and refreshing, and I think it is the best Hefeweizen that I have ever tasted. One does not need a lemon to enjoy its attributes.
Next time I’m at K’nB I’m going to pair this beer with one of their bistro dishes infused with beer. They serve house-made sourkraut that would be great with this Hefeweizen. At home I would love to pair this beer with cheese, salads, fish, shellfish, and any poultry dish. Cheers!
