Border X Brewing- San Diego
I had the pleasure of visiting Border X Brewing’s Tasting Room in Barrio Logan yesterday. They are in the midst of a “soft opening” and I was able to taste three brews from their brewery in Otay: Gran Jefe (Hefeweizen), Blood Saison, and Abuelitas Stout. After tasting these delicious brews I begged for more, but they were out of their others. I will be going back soon for their IPA and Abuelos Pale Ale made with local hops and figs. The Abuelitas Stout was most interesting to me due to its complexity (and I was craving a winter warmer), so here is my review of it:
Black in the glass with a mocha head and spotty lacing. Subtle aromas of coffee, vanilla, toast, chocolate, cocoa, and toffee. Similar flavors, but I also tasted cinnamon, nutmeg, and a tiny bit of chili pepper. Smooth, medium-bodied mouthfeel, minimal carbonation, delicate sweetness and light bitterness. It has a cool, refreshing finish.
This brew paired alongside an appetizer of bacon-wrapped dates or dates stuffed with prosciutto would be pretty awesome, or it would also work well with dessert with chocolate or caramel as an ingredient. Look for an official opening January 17th! Cheers!Share This:
