Council Brewing is a small-batch brewery carefully creating quality craft beers.  “We brew beers that are unique and extremely flavorful, focusing on Ales hailing from American, Belgian, and English origins with an emphasis on San Diego’s interpretation of West Coast IPAs and Sour Beers,” says their website.  After visiting them and tasting a flight of their popular brews, we can attest to the accuracy of that statement.  Everything we tasted was delicious, and we will definitely return soon for more.  The beer we chose to rate and describe was Pirate’s Breakfast Imperial Oatmeal Stout, 8.1 ABV.  Here is our evaluation of this tasty brew:

Pirate’s Breakfast Oatmeal Stout

Much like a Russian Imperial Stout, this brew has beautiful black color with a one inch fluffy head that diminished to thin lacing on sides of the snifter.  Opulent vanilla/coffee aroma.  Intense flavor with medium hop bitterness and notes of roasted grains and coffee.  Full-bodied in appearance.  Clean, velvety mouthfeel, and warming quality during the finish.  Deeply flavored, overall; would be very nice as an aperitif.
